Some of the benefits of double glazed replacement windows – Suppliers in Cheshire
Having made my decision that I am going to have to replace my existing windows because they are now beyond repair and as a security option they are almost non existent, I guess it is time to look at whether or not I simply replace like for like or do I go for the modernisation upgrade and get double glazed replacement windows?
Clearly I can’t continue with rotting frames and they are now so bad that the putty is dropping out, so I thought at first in the same old pattern of simply replacing with what I understood, you know, the easy and cheap option. But is it?
The reality however meant something quite different - constant condensation, constant maintenance both inside and out, sticking windows where I have either over painted or the frame has warped, baking hot in the summer unless I have all the windows wide open and let all the street grime and the noise in, and freezing in the winter. By the time I have taken into consideration all of the maintenance costs (when and if I ever actually get around to it) or simply the speed at which I seem to be always replacing it, it suddenly didn’t feel like such a great option.
Another disadvantage was that when I have occasionally considering putting the house on the market, estate agents have butted and dropped the value because the “new owners will have the cost of putting in replacement windows”.
It seems that I was in a minority of house owners who had not yet seen the light in that installation of good double glazing from a reputable company will not only increase the house value but more importantly in these times, make it easier to sell.
Clearly I have been out of touch
What now then?
Having decided to give it a go – I found my approved supplier in Cheshire (a company that are FENSA registered), I opted for UPVC / PVC-u window frames and tilt and turn replacement windows with energy saving glazing (oh yes – when I go for something – I go for it) and went ahead – so what are the benefits that I have noticed?
- It has helped to reduce my heating bills
- As I save on burning fuel I reduced my personal carbon foot print
- The house is more comfortable - warmer in winter – cooler in summer
- I don’t have to keep the windows open wide and let all the outside dust in
- I don’t get draughts any more
- My house no longer looks “dated”
- The windows are easier to clean – (I opted for tilt and turn windows)
- I feel more secure as I have window locks all around.
- I no longer have a condensation problem in the house.
- The constant routine of maintenance has gone or to be fair, I am no longer constantly reminded that I need to do the window maintenance)
- It has increased the house value but not sure I want to sell it now.
- The house is quieter
- The house looks and feels somehow nicer and a bit more upmarket
So what was my overall verdict? –
It did seem a bit pricey when I fist got the quote and I will be honest I nearly changed my mind and backed out – having “taken the plunge” I am now glad I did it – OK it will take some time to recover the money back if I am, simply trying to justify it on the reduced heating bills but I don’t really think that is the only benefit.
I am so much more comfortable and secure in my own home and feel pretty good about my home – and that is priceless.
